Come on, Massachusetts!

Today could mark a turning point in American politics.

The Democrats are so eager to keep their senate domination that they have spent a fortune and sent all the heavy guns to the Bay State to ensure that Martha Coakley takes over Ted Kennedy's seat.

Scott Brown has proved a resilient candidate and could just catch the wave of public discontent.

From the beginning, the citizens of Massachusetts have proved almost as contrary as their northern neighbors, but their larger numbers, commercial advantages and, now, their history, have given them not only independence of mind but of the knowledge that they have, as a state, consistently punched above their weight.

This is shown by the huge number of independent voters, and the fact that Republicans often take state offices. Even occasionally, senate seats. Let's not forget that it was Ed Brooke who was the first black man to have his name placed into nomination for the presidency at a national convention, not Mr Obama.

Today's message is simply, democracy is more important than party; get out there and vote today!
