This week's Silk Purse Award goes to the Daily Beast that ran the sentence about Sarah Palin: "This week she's raising her profile significantly, with paid speeches to the Salina, Kansas Chamber of Commerce on Friday. . . "
Puh-leeze!
No offense, Salina, but I don't think anyone ever raised his profile significantly by doing anything within your city limits apart from Steve Fossett, perhaps.
What is it with the desperate attempts by the GOP right that is trying to turn Mrs Palin into a credible national candidate? One is reminded of Charles Foster Kane's efforts with Susan Alexander. While both are somewhat attractive canaries, neither can sing. Providing sycophantic after-dinner remarks to the converted on the rubber-chicken circuit does not a world leader make.
There is real talent in the Republican party that needs exposure, nurturing and financial backing. Expending resources on pseudo-candidates who have already demonstrated their lack of a base broad enough to secure election is an indulgence the GOP can't afford.
Wishful thinking may persuade those on the right that Mrs Palin is a phoenix, but the reality is that she quacks.
